I couldn't agree more with you Megan. All my close friends and especially the people in my government class know that gay marriage is the issue that gets me fired up more than anything. I understand that some deeply religious people might have a problem with allowing homosexuals to marry, because marriage is holy union, ect, ect. (Well, actually I don't even understand why thats a problem, but I respect their religious beliefs). But not allowing civil unions? Come on, people. Not allowing gays the same rights as straight people is discrimination. Period.
Having state constitutions prohibiting gay marriage has lowered the sincerity of our country in my eyes. What a bunch of hypocrites, those who pretend to be patriotic Americans, and yet vote to discriminate against a group of people so openly.
My only hope is that someday the national supreme court will bring justice and civil rights back into the United States. It might be a long, long time before that happens, due to our lovely conservative judges that we already have, and I'm sure our President will appoint. It might take 100 years. But someday, I pray, justice will prevail.
In the meantime, I guess we pray for our country. Or move to Canada.
